Pack History

Q: When was Pack 1218 founded?

A:  Pack 1218 was originally chartered many years ago as Pack 295 at Raymond.  The Pack folded in 1977 or 1978.  It was re-formed again as Pack 1218 and folded again around 2001.

From Donovan Anderson, Pack 1218 Cubmaster, 2006 – 2010:

Back in May 2006 my son Tucker came home from school wearing an "I want to be a Cub Scout" sticker and a post card inviting parents to attend a parent information meeting.  This initial meeting was held at Commonwealth Elementary School.  There were 7-8 parents in attendance and the meeting was hosted by Rebekeh Havard, Los Amigos District Executive.  Rebekeh gave an introduction to the Cub Scout Program and then described how active Pack 1218 had once been.  She also told us how the Pack had been dormant for 5+ years and that if we chose to accept this mission, it was up to us to reintroduce the Cub Scout Program to Raymond and Commonwealth Schools.  Everyone was somewhat apprehensive, but was also excited about the opportunity for our boys to participate in the Scouting Program.

Rebekeh listed all required adult leader positions and defined each role and how everyone works together in Dens and as a Pack.  Every parent at this meeting volunteered for one position or another — we were off & running.  If memory serves me right we had 1 Tiger, 2-3 Wolves, 2 Bears and 2 Webelos.  Rebekeh was instrumental to the launching of Pack 1218, as she made herself available to answer questions and give guidance along the way.  We filled out our paperwork that night to register the Pack chartered by the Parents of Raymond & Commonwealth Schools with the specific instructions of finding a more permanent Charter Organization.

During the summer we were also introduced to our Unit Commissioner, Linda Henke, who had a long term relationship with Pack 1218.  She herself served as a Den Leader back when her boy was young.  By the time Fall 2006 rolled around we were ready to have our first recruiting campaign in an effort to add more boys to our Pack.  The boys that signed up in May/June had all enjoyed their limited introduction into Cub Scouts and most attended summer day camp, getting them hooked or addicted to Scouting.  We recruited another 6-8 boys that first Fall and Pack 1218 was officially re-formed and would soon build a reputation for providing a fun filled top notch Scouting program.  We continued to add new Cub Scouts every Spring & Fall.  As the leadership of the Pack, we concentrated on adding to the quality & quantity of outings & activities each year.

I truly believe that the success and continued growth of Pack 1218 is a true testament to the Cub Scout Program itself and all that it has to offer to young boys, parents and entire families.  Serving as the Cubmaster for these first four years during the resurrection of this Pack brought back many memories of the things I learned and the great experiences I enjoyed in Scouting as a youth myself.  It has been my pleasure to serve and give back to the Scouting Program through Pack 1218.
